Research in the UK
My academic interests are in the material and visual expressions of culture, place, and space. My PhD thesis conducted at the University of Manchester explored how post-Soviet migrants' identities are constructed through the home interiors and material possessions that they keep in their homes. This research was published as a book 'Material Cultures, Migrations, and Identities' (Palgrave 2015) that focuses on theoretical and methodological aspects of researching diasporic home framed around three themes: homemaking and decorating practices, gender, clothing and dressing practices, and food and cooking practices.
